SIGRI SURF – WINDSURF LESVOS – GREECE
SIGRI is … the land that time forgot, or, ‘just like Greece in the 60s!’ Sigri is a small fishing village near the western tip of Lesbos Island. The scenery is magnificent, the land all around is wild and the combination of flat water and waves makes every windsurfer’s heart beat faster!
Season: May to October.
Why Go?: The uncrowded spot and the perfect conditions meet every rider’s demands! There is no other place that has such a variety of spots within such a short driving distance!
Sigri is a great destination for families, singles and couples. The centre includes a children’s play area with a slide, a swing and a sandpit.
Restaurants, bars, free WiFi internet, outdoor pool, safaris and general fun and entertainment that all help you to enjoy your perfect windsurfing holiday!
Wind Factor: Usually ranging from 15-30 knots and sometimes even stronger.
Sigri has become a well-known windsurfing destination due to the particular geomorphologic conditions in this area.
From April to September there is consistent and regular thermal wind – in fact it’s one of the windiest places in Greece during these months..
Riding on Offer: Free riders have a huge area directly in front of the centre, this area is perfect for trying new manoeuvres due to the completely flat water.
Across the bay from the centre is the island Nissiopi that offers protection from the Aegean Sea. Therefore, if there are any problems on the water, there is no risk of drifting further!
Where to Stay: There is a wide choice of apartments and a hotel in Sigri. Most of them are also walking distance from the spot.
Flight Factor: 3-hour flight from the UK to Mitilini (Lesvos, Greece). The shuttle service brings you from the airport to Sigri (around 95 km).
Local Centre: The Sigri Surf centre has a great team of excellent water sports instructors.
You can also feel safe in their hands as rescue facilities are always at hand for any situation that might occur. The centre only provides brand-new Tabou and Gaastra kit for their clients.
The courses at the centre are run in very small groups (2-5 people per course), which help to improve your learning progress a lot.
Flat Day Fun: A range of activities and historical highlights are right at your doorstep! I
t is worth going to the Petrified Forest. In particular, you shouldn’t miss the Museum in Sigri, where you can buy some local products like wine, olives, herbs etc.
There are also a lot of other activities, such as mountain biking, volleyball, fishing or if you can’t leave the water alone, then grab a SUP and inspect the area around the centre.
If you want to discover more of Lesvos there are many places around that are worth visiting, like Eressos or Molivos.
