W4CR AT SHOTWICK

June 2013 003

PRESS RELEASE

Windsurfing members at Shotwick Lake Sailing in Flintshire, North Wales, joined in with the national Watersports for Cancer Research (W4CR) fundraising event on June 15th, which was also the Club’s annual Open Day.
In very gusty winds, the small group was determined to windsurf, as a minimum, the equivalent distance of a marathon during the course of the afternoon, raising, at the latest count, in excess of £400 for the charity in the process.

Fortunately, the forecast monsoon rains did not dampen spirits, and the sun shone for most of the day. It was great to see windsurfing playing a prominent part in the day’s activities – the lake was historically very popular with local windsurfers, but has only recently become an RYA recognised Windsurfing training centre – and plans are already being formed for a potential event for next year’s W4CR day.

If other windsurfers would like to join in then please get in touch – find the contact details for the Club at shotwicksailing.org or visit the Shotwick Project Windsurf page for more details
