The Magherorarty Classic 2015 once again lived up to its name as one of the best windsurfing events in the UK and Ireland. The Classic which is held at the legendary break in Magherorarty Donegal on Ireland’s North West coast completed a single elimination in good conditions. While the reef break was out of action there was plenty of wind and waves in the mid section of the beach all day to challenge the competitors. Christian Hallgren from Sweden earned the prestigious 2015 title ( previous winners Timo Mullen, Steve Thorpe). The Swede who sailed consistently well all day was a deserving winner. In a close run final the Swede narrowly outscored Ireland’s Ryan O’ Leary. The 22 year O’Leary a Trinity College scholar is an exciting windsurfing prospect and had the best waveride of the contest in the final however he failed to land a high scoring jump and had to settle for the runners up spot for 2015. The ladies winner and 4th overall was Patricia Herrero who defeated Dubliner Vicky Guthrie. Stephen Girod finished third overall having defeated Patricia Herrero in the runners up final.

The event attracted windsurfers from Austria, France,Germany, Ireland, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland. Event organiser Tomasz Lotocki congratulated all those who took part and paid tribute to the dedicated crew who helped make the fantastic event happen. The typical Irish weather brought in four seasons every hour and many beautiful rainbows throughout the five hours of competition. The Classic which was held once again in memory of  Mikey Clancy a true legend of Magerorarty.”
